Rebuilding a perfectly good truck is an insane concept to most mentally stable truck owners, and for good reason. Why go through all the trouble to tear down something of quality only to redo cool body mods, a good paint job, or a slammed stance? These questions of reason never entered Jaycee Poulsen's mind when he rebuilt his 1989 Chevy show truck, because to Jaycee, he didn't have a choice. In the shadows of darkness, thugs broke into his shop and ripped almost everything off of the Silverado, leaving a shell of a truck up on blocks for Jaycee to enjoy. Down but not out, he gathered and rallied his troops to rebuild the truck, and after two long years, the truck now looks better than ever.
Starting with a solid foundation, Jaycee's truck now rests 10 inches lower than stock thanks to a ton of hardware. Belltech 2-inch drop spindles begin to lower the front, while a two-link helps bring the rear down a bit. Glover's Customs of Somerville, Tennessee, completed the suspension by adding Firestone 'bags at each corner, four Viair compressors, three 5-gallon tanks, eight Parker valves, and 1/2-inch air line. Dumped on the ground, it was now time for Jaycee to do his own magic: paint and body.
Instantly recognizable is the Caddy-clip up front, but that is not the extent of body modifications to this Bow Tie. Jaycee owns Kuttin' Edge Kustomz, in Memphis, and specializes in painting graphics, flames, and using his airbrushing talent to make cars and trucks look unforgettable. On his own truck, before the paint was sprayed, rear door handles from a Yukon were installed, a Sir Michael's roll pan was welded in place, a 2002 Yukon front bumper was sectioned and added, and a custom-made grille shell was set in place. With the body mods completed, Jaycee filled his spray gun with several custom mixes of House of Kolors pigments and went off the chain on the surface of the truck. On the driver side of the truck, flames, skulls, graphics, and more than 10 different colors call it home. Moving to the passenger side, traditional green flames burn brightly with blue negatives peering through. The tailgate is the melding point for the two schemes, whereas the hood only has green flames. Awesome is an easy way to describe the paintwork, a true representation of Jaycee's talent.
Inside the differently painted doors lies an interior that matches the attitude of the wild exterior. Jaycee continued with the color inside by painting each door panel the properly representing side, and the graphics are carried throughout the jambs. The dash was smoothed and painted and also received several flame licks itself. Southern Auto Interior of Olive Branch, Mississippi, re-covered 2005 Chrylser 300 electric seats in blue suede and distressed gray leather. New ACC gray carpet contrasts with all the blue, while a blue suede headliner looks down on a ton of billet accessories, including a Billet Specialties Sniper steering wheel. Providing all the tunes Jaycee can handle, Auto Enhancement of Horn Lake, Mississippi, filled the cab with audio bliss. An Alpine 7-inch head unit sends signals to an Alpine equalizer, which in turn head straight for two MA Audio amps and one Cliff Designs amp. These three amps power a 12-inch MA Audio sub in a custom fiberglass center console enclosure and several sets of separates in the doors and kick panels.
Powering this rolling work of paint-and-body art is a mildly modified 350ci V-8 equipped with an after-market intake, Hedman Hedders, and a Flowmaster exhaust system. Performance may be mild, but the paintwork is equally impressive under the hood, with many pieces receiving the blue pigment.
Satisfied with everything to this point, Jaycee applied the crown jewels to his truck in the form of very large wheels. Up front, 22x10-inch TIS Model 04 wheels are painted to match each side of the paint scheme, with painted dust covers, and they are wrapped in Pirelli Scorpion 265/35R22 tires. Finishing the rolling masterpiece are 24x10-inch TIS Model 04 wheels, again matching each side and sporting painted dust covers, and these huge wheels are protected by Hankook 305/35R24 tires.
Now looking at a better-than-ever, completed truck, Jaycee plans on showing the truck all over America,and we're positive trophies will be going home to Memphis with him.
