Perhaps not the biggest, craziest, or most custom Super Duty ever built, this Ford may, however, be the perfect big Blue Oval. Lifted high to add maneuverability, custom painted to turn heads, and enough audio and video to whet anyone's senses, ATS Design's Super Duty does everything at an excellent level with meticulous care. Expertly transformed from bone-stock to this first-class example of aftermarket wizardry, all we need now is some seat time in Glamis to make sure everything operates properly.
Starting out life as a stock 2005 Super Duty equipped with the 6.0L V-8 turbo diesel, the crew at ATS Design in Cerritos, California, had a great blank canvas to apply the appropriate modifications to. Beginning with the suspension, RIZE Industries delivered one of its top-notch 12-inch lifts designed especially for the Super Duty. Incorporating the company's famous Quad-Link system, the front uses a dual-horizontal King off-road shock system, dual steering stabilizers, and heavy-duty gusseted 1/4-inch steel plates for severe-duty usage; and a Hellwig anti-sway bar keeps things stable. Out back, the real magic takes place. Using floating four-link traction bars, the rear features dual-horizontal King off-road shocks and lift coils in favor of the stock leaf packs. Offering nearly 40% more wheel travel, the King off-road shocks get a workout and added plenty of room for bigger wheels and tires. Adding the necessary rubber to the project was Toyo Open Country M/T tires sized 40x15.50R22. Mounted inside these monstrous tires are the finest wheels from Weld. Velociti 8 chrome hoops were the wheels of choice, and with each corner sporting 22x12-inch wheels it's easy to see why the Super Duty looks so perfect.
Needing some more power to turn these larger rollers, the team at ATS Design turned the focus on upgrading the 6.0L Power Stroke. Answering their call was Banks Power. Installing its Big Hoss Bundle, which includes a Techni-Cooler charge-air cooler with the High-Ram inlet casting, the Six-Gun diesel tuner with PDA, Speed-Loader, stainless 4-inch Monster exhaust, and DynaFact gauges. With an added 220 lb-ft of torque, the 6.0L V-8 had no problems turning the large Mud Terrains. Completing the powertrain modifications, ARB air lockers and compressors were installed, US Gears 4.56 gears installed front and rear, and a Tom Wood Driveline driveshaft inserted into each pumpkin. Powering down the freeways was now a joy, but the truck still lacked the overall appeal the crew was going for. To remedy this dilemma, Kelly and Son's Crazy Painters were placed with the responsibility to make it extreme.
Located in Bellflower, California, Kelly, Mitch, and John of Kelly and Son's Crazy Painters designed and applied the beautiful and simple paint scheme. Using House of Kolor pigments, the painters sprayed the sharp graphics and realistic lightning airbrushing on the hood, sides, and tailgate. ATS Design added its own fender flares, fender flare cutout grilles, platinum running boards, and mesh grille. Also installed on the Super Duty are sick CNC-machined billets pieces, including a rear skeleton bumper, a roof rack with Hella lights, and a solid push bar with Hella lights. Finishing the exterior modifications were the additions of a SnugTop tonneau cover, custom Reese hitch, Wise Industries Bedrug, and AIM billet tailgate handle. Now the ATS crew was happy...until they opened the doors and the stock interior revealed itself.
