Several months ago I asked for those interested parties (you, the reader) who wanted to participate in helping us with our editorial content. This was a first-time initiative here at Truckin' for you to actually help select the cover you would most like to see on the newsstands and for our subscribers. Well, we received a tremendous amount of responses from those who actually took the time to either vote for their conviction or vote for a selected few cover lines (the small sentences or phrases used to help capture your attention and ultimately, hopefully, make you purchase the issue).
From the names and e-mail addresses we were able to capture, we then posed an even deeper set of questions regarding our content, from years gone by to current and existing content. We posed questions as mundane as "What do you like about the magazine?" and "What do you not like about the magazine?" We also asked for our readers' favorite makes and models of trucks - whether or not they like covers with or without girls, classic trucks, late-model trucks, imports, lifted trucks, or lowered trucks. While I could share with you all the hundreds of responses we received, the overwhelming majority were pretty favorable, and for the most part the responses suggested that we as editors actually do know what we are doing and have the pulse of our readers at hand.
However, one of the most interesting aspects that developed from the reader surveys was the response to lifted versus lowered trucks. It seems strictly from a newsstand purchaser's opinion, they highly favored lifted trucks and didn't care too much for the lowered ones. However, when that same question was posed to subscribers, they overwhelmingly preferred lowered trucks to lifted. So, now the question (or dilemma) comes into play: How do we successfully satisfy everyone? The answer is really simple. We can't. But what we can do is to continue to offer the same consistent editorial package we have for the past 32 years.
