It left everyone shaking their heads and commenting on its incredible stance, insane body mods, and intricate engine work. It also took claim to dozens of Best Of trophies, appeared in Giovanna Wheels’ booth at SEMA, and proved that SUVs could both be wildly custom yet completely sanitary. “It” was and still is possibly the most customized SUV we’ve placed on our cover, and “it” is simply known as Bill’s Hummer.
Being the owner of Ekstensive Metalworks, in Houston, allows Bill Carlton the good fortune of tools, talented people surrounding him, but it also gives him an outlet for automotive creativity that culminated in this H2s transformation. Think of it like Bill Gates needing a good computer—it wouldn’t be hard for him to get one. Originally built for the late Ken Caminitti, Bill was able to purchase the Hummer from the family and build it again in his honor.
A mandrel-bent frame, Firestone airbags, and handmade suspension allows the H2 to swallow up a pair of 26-inch Gianelle Spezia 6 wheels and Hankook tires on one side and a pair of Giovanna Merano wheels with paint-matched accents on the other. The factory 6.0L is no slouch, but when boosted by a ProCharger supercharger, JBA headers, and custom computer tune from Street and Performance, this Hummer screams down the highway.
With more body mods than a Playmate, Bill’s Hummer was no stranger to Ekstensive’s welders. One-piece sheetmetal bumper, shaved hood, door handles, and a matching handmade rear bumper are just a few of the bodywork magic performed. Inside the paint booth, House of Kolor Gold Rush paint was splashed over the H2’s skin, which provided the clean, but custom aesthetic Bill was going for.
Not much to see inside, except for a smoothed and painted dash, Ostrich leather seats, giant sub enclosure with six 15-inch Directed subs, three amps, and a total of eight monitors in the cabin. It’s ridiculous from top to bottom, front to back, and that’s exactly why it earned a spot in Truckin’s Hall of Fame.
