Speed is relative. If you've been on a skateboard going downhill at 15 mph, or in a shifter kart doing 85 mph, you know that depending on the mode of transportation, speed can feel completely different. In a stock, 16-second quarter-mile truck, going 15 seconds feels fast, but once you've dipped into the 13s, then you feel like John Force. And the trend continues until either you end up with zero dollars in your bank account or you end up behind bars for street racing. It takes more than a few ponies to whet the appetite for going fast. That's never been truer than at this year's Nitto Tire West Coast THROWDOWN presented by McGaughy's Suspension.

I won't spoil the ending, but let's just say that after making a very fast pass down the 1320, our winner wasn't satisfied and squeezed the go-juice. This resulted in a new all-time THROWDOWN speed record. You gotta love the need for speed. This year saw the best variety yet, with two Fords, one Jeep, a midsize truck, and of course, plenty of GM trucks present. The best part of the performance truck shootout was the genuine desire for all the competitors to do well and not break anything. Each year we have carnage resulting in trailers being procured, but this year, spirits were high and engines stayed in one piece. When people from all different backgrounds can get together and pull for each other to go as fast as possible, it's a beautiful thing.
