Having two boys has changed me. I’m not just a man, or a husband anymore, I’m a dad. With that title comes a whole list of responsibilities, but it also comes with unparalleled joy that people tell you about, but you never truly understand until it happens. I’m looking forward to teaching my sons about trucks, how to customize them, and how make the most of roads less traveled. That leads me to this month’s classic truck feature, a ’51 Chevy owned by Murray “Tippy” Touchette. You see, Tippy happily recalled the 1,500-mile road trip he and his son went on after purchasing the truck as their own. He recounts how those gas station stops, restaurant visits, and nights spent in a hotel will be memories that are treasured for a lifetime. I hope one day to experience a similar trip with my sons.
The cliché goes like this: “It’s about the journey and not the destination.” Oftentimes, we get so caught up in hurrying from point A to point B that we lose focus on the treasures that are blasting by. I’m guilty of it too. Given the opportunity, I hope to show my kids just how much fun the open road can be when all you’re doing is chasing a horizon line.
