We attended the 10th Annual Goodguys show at Del Mar, California, where the chrome met the surf. We cruised 75 miles south from Huntington Beach through numerous surfing communities while driving along the picturesque Pacific coastline. When we arrived, we saw more than 2,400 pre-'72 custom cars and trucks that had invaded the Del Mar Fairgrounds for the three-day speed and beauty extravaganza. The spacious Del Mar fairgrounds, with its Spanish-style architecture, famous one-mile horse track, and immaculately landscaped colorful gardens made for incredible backdrops. The fairground cruise route was busy all weekend with rolling custom rides of all makes and models. Classic '50s and '60s rock blared from the PA system and more than 200 vendors displayed their latest eye candy and performance products. Many "How-To" seminars were offered during the show and fun was had by all. The show definitely reflected the laidback SoCal lifestyle.
