Fresh from paint prison, our '99 Ford Lightning was looking quite dapper after the pros at L&G Enterprises shined it up. Looks don't make a truck go fast or handle better, so we focused our efforts on making the supercharged 5.4L F-150 handle like a Mustang on rails. After removing the stock suspension, we bolted on a combination of Hotchkis and Belltech parts to get our Lightning low and ready for hard turns. Scheduling snafus prevented the 5.4L from getting the arsenal of go-fast parts we ordered, but we were confident the low-mileage V-8 would perform admirably out on the track. THROWDOWN provided us with the perfect "before" testing, and with the new engine parts being added after the shootout, the Ford will be much, much faster for next year's event.
