Greg Oberg's blown Silverado SS had a catastrophic failure competing in last year's THROWDOWN. Unfortunately, a week prior to our 2013 event, he was wrapping up the latest engine mods when his engine began knocking badly while on the dyno. Bad luck bit him again. Thankfully, all of the rides in his family's driveway are ultra-fast and he hoped to bring out his wife's Grand Cherokee SRT8, which came in Second Place two years ago. Benefitting from a forged stroker kit, the 413ci Hemi was up 100 hp from the 2011 THROWDOWN and sounded absolutely rowdy going down the track. Ripping the quarter-mile in the low 11s, then slicing through the slalom with the quickest time, and logging the best speed stop time, Greg immediately had the early lead. A Second Place finish in the road course gave him a tie with the red Cheyenne, but due to a lack of exterior mods, he received no points in the show ‘n shine portion. A valiant effort once again left Greg and the Oberg clan with a Second Place overall finish. Let us provide all of our SoCal readers with a big warning: if you see a murdered-out SRT8 cruising the freeways, don't challenge it or you'll see taillights faster than you can say, "What was that?"
