THROWDOWN provided us with our first opportunity to really put our '13 F-150 EcoBoost project through a gauntlet of testing. We debuted the truck at SEMA 2012, but the truck had very low miles on it since we completed it. Ramping up for the performance truck shootout, we added a few bolt-ons that actually lowered our total boost pressure. Because of these last-minute additions, our Ford was down more than 40 rwhp and 14 lb-ft of torque. We didn't have time to figure out the best part combination, so we literally just ran the truck the way it was. What we found out during the full day of racing was the traction control/engine management was still randomly killing fuel, the Baer brakes worked flawlessly with no brake fade, and given more power we could definitely have a more competitive truck on our hands. For now, it's back to the drawing board to make the most of the parts we have and learn more about Ford's mighty twin-turbo V-6.
