Saturday morning brought the rumbling of camshafts and the cackling of headers, as boat after boat was backed down the AVI ramp and into the water to begin the biggest day of the two-day event. By 9 a.m., the majority of the participants had secured a spot on the AVI beach and began to bench race while hanging out near their respective water rockets. Some spent the entire day laying around and swapping stories, while others went for boat ride after boat ride, making speed passes on the river in front of the AVI lagoon. Participants were given a numbered tag for their boat's steering wheel to allow others to vote for the boat they felt should win the Best Gelcoat, Worst Gelcoat, Most Classic Jet, Most Classic V-Drive, Sickest Engine, and Best in Show. At 2 p.m., the kids in attendance were invited to participate in a relay race and root beer chug with prizes provided by Got River?. The kids were ecstatic when they were presented brand-new waterskis which promoted the idea further that CBBB is a family-style event, welcoming all those who wish to bring the little ones along. After all, these individuals are without a doubt the next generation of hot boaters. Afterward, CBBB participants were given a chance to jump into their boats and show off a bit for the Classicboatbeachbash.com cameras. Foot throttles were planted and place diverters ratcheted up, as participants strived to push their boats airborne for the photographers. At the tail end of Saturday, after a buffet dinner in the AVI, participants gathered for the awards presentation. Prizes from Rex Marine, Got River?, Harman Marine, TPC Racing, Roostwear, and SB Products were awarded to the lucky participants.
As the sun came up Sunday morning, boats were filled up and coolers were packed as a large part of the group made their way from the AVI cove all the way down to the Lake Havasu sandbar to spend a day on the water. Upon returning to the AVI, a spaghetti dinner was held in AVI's Feathers Caf, where participants swapped stories for the weekend and planned to come back next year. For more information about this year's event and next year's Third Annual Classic Boat Beach Bash, check out the official website at www.classicboatbeachbash.com or e-mail the organizers at admin@classicboatbeachbash.com.
