Some say that if you have seen one truck show, you have seen them all. While admittedly there are certain common occurrences that take place at every show, such as a trophy and raffle presentation, it is really the club or organization hosting the event that can make or break a truck show. On Sunday, April 4, we took a ride over to Henderson, Nevada, after our annual Truckin' Nationals show held in downtown Las Vegas to cover the first annual A Day With Severed Ties show. Hosted by the Vegas chapter of the well-known Severed Ties Truck Club, this first-year event was, to say the least, impressive.
As we pulled up to the Hot Rod Hill automotive business complex in Henderson, the scene was full of slick and smooth mini-trucks and body-dragging fullsizes as far as the eye could see. The Severed Ties crew kicked off the day by offering all entrants a complimentary breakfast at the Hot Rod Grille, where new enthusiast relationships were established prior to showtime. Once everyone had eaten their fill, it was back outside to the Hot Rod Hill complex parking lot to wipe down and detail rides for judging and show presentation. Severed Ties definitely did an excellent job of covering all the major show classes, and they put a lot of effort into the judging process.
As the day moved on, strong custom-truck enthusiasm filled the air as enthusiasts walked the show and checked out the trick modifications and details on the various show rides in attendance. A few vendors were in attendance offering custom truck accessories and apparel if you had a few bucks to cut loose with. During the late afternoon hours, a raffle was held, followed by a trophy presentation where the deserving winners were handed their prizes. To commend the various truck clubs in attendance for making it to the event, a club participation trophy was broken into four pieces and distributed to the respective clubs. Indeed a unique way to give out a trophy, but anything is possible with this group of Severed Ties folks.
Sponsors and vendors at this smash-hit first-annual event included Action Motorsports, Bad Apple Tattoo Company, Brand 1 Clothing, Dusk 2 Dawn Tees, Krazy 'N Kustom Tint, Line-X, N'Sane Motorsports, 360 Air Intakez & Powder Coating, and Musso Motorsports. Special thanks go out to Jay at Action Motorsports, Brand 1 Clothing, MJ Dean Contracting, and VIP Custom Motoring for their contributions to the event.
