The 4th annual Scrapin' the Coast show 'n' shine was a two day event held at the Mississippi Coast Coliseum in Biloxi, Mississippi, just months after Hurricane Katrina left New Orleans and the Gulf Coast in ruins. According to show promoter Greg Miller, it's time for the folks of the Gulf Coast region to have fun again. "Now that Katrina is gone, Scrapin' the Coast must go on."
A pre-dawn quarter-mile line of enthusiastic participants waited for registration to begin at 8:00 a.m. (followed by classification and judging). There were some 75 categories to be judged. This Gulf Coast happening consisted of a show 'n' shine, hydraulic hop-off, stereo competition (USACI), live music, burn-off competition, sledgehammer demolition, and neon glow contest.A large vendors' village allowed competitors and spectators to see and get 411 on their latest products. Following a day of cool customs, hot temps, and high humidity, the show carried over to nearby Gulfport Dragway, which hosted an after-party that rocked until the late night hours with run-what-ya-brung drag racing, a smoky burn-off competition, and a wild bikini contest.
Everyone who attended had a memorable Scrapin' the Coast experience for sure. The days are counting down 'til next year's show. See ya there!
