Moving along, Night 2 was spent in breezy Lone Pine, at the base of Whitney Portal Road. Of course, you might remember Lone Pine because of the Great Lone Pine earthquake of 1872, which was one of California's largest earthquakes in recorded history with a magnitude of possibly 8.0 or greater. A calm night (with internet connection) awaited us, as Day 3 would begin early for a scenic photo shot, followed by breakfast, straight into a little bit of off-roading, and then a parting of ways for the journey back to southern California. Now, I can't think of any better way to test 4WD than by exploring some sand dunes. These trucks and SUV's handled sand surprisingly well, although this terrain probably wouldn't come into play during a daily commute.
The 2007 Truckin' Of The Year Road Trip and Testing has concluded, and it's time for some results! Collective post-trip evaluations, notes, and quarter mile times and braking distances will be taken into consideration in selecting Truckin's 2007 Of The Year Truck & SUV. Stay tuned...
