It looks good and drives even better. The 355 Chevy LT1 powerplant was upgraded to produce almost 400 hp then detailed to capture maximum show points. The modified 350 Turbo tranny sends the power to the rear through a B&M Hammer Shifter.

More changes are planned for the interior, but the cut-down Dodge seats, the Auto Meter gauges, the Lecarra wheel, and the 100-watt Clarion stereo are a great start.

If you weren't sure before, the smoke will tell you that Coleman loves to have fun with the Wicked Willys. Although he doesn't have quarter-mile times, the Bristol Drag Strip hasn't opened yet for the season; the truck is a spirited performer with the engine and the chassis working together. We liked the pair of 18-1/2-inch-wide tire marks that decorated the street every time Coleman stomped the loud pedal.

The smooth one-piece fiberglass cab uses a reinforced floor for strength. The cab is attached to the chassis with bolts and rubber mounts. The fenders are connected to both the cab and the chassis, while the shortened and tubbed bed is bolted directly to the rear framerails. There's not much cargo handling space in the shortened pickup bed, but the 15-gallon, MAS aluminum gas tank makes a perfect competition-style addition. Dan chose the 12-inch-wide tubs, but a 9-inch size is also available from the manufacturer.

The careful engineering is obvious when you examine the perfect spacing between the fat tires, the rear leaf springs, the wheelie bars, and the central dual exhaust. There's barely enough room for the pumpkin squeezed between those 18-1/2-inch Mickey Thompsons. The Farm Use license plate always gets a smile.
