Street Scene, in Costa Mesa, California, has established itself as a company that builds innovative, cutting-edge vehicles. The guys at the company often get their hands on the latest and greatest trucks and SUVs to hit the market, and are usually one of the first aftermarket shops to have modified versions of these vehicles.

In the past, Street Scene has built incredible Ford, Chevy, and Dodge trucks and SUVs; its most recent project was the '02 Chevrolet TrailBlazer seen here. Mike Spagnola, the owner of this vehicle, took possession of the SUV in September, 2001, and immediately began the job.

The company began by altering the TrailBlazer's stance -- it lowered the SUV 4 inches from stock using DJM equipment. The new suspension uses DJM springs and shocks in the front and rear. Replacing the stock wheel and tire setup are 20x8-inch Center Line Lexi wheels, wrapped by 245/40R20 BFGoodrich g-Force T/A tires.

Once the TrailBlazer was brought closer to the ground, Street Scene went to work on the body. The company added its own components to the exterior, starting with a bumper cover and valance and speed grilles in front.

The bumper cover is made from urethane, and was fitted with a two-piece grille. Two more grille inserts were installed in the factory grille location. All four pieces use Street Scene's brushed speed grille design.

Put in place just above the hood was a fiberglass Street Scene windshield wiper cowl, and installed on both sides of the TrailBlazer are Cal View electric mirrors. These mirrors include LED signals and have heated glass. Finishing off the body mods is a Street Scene billet antenna.

After they finished the body, the Chevy was ready for paint. It was sent to Santini's paint shop, in Huntington Beach, California, where paint expert Pete Santini applied House of Kolor Kandy Tangelo Pearl flames over the factory Summit White paint.

Santini's also overlaid burnt orange flames on the Tangelo, and used a lime green pinstripe to outline the Tangelo flames.

The TrailBlazer is powered by a 4.2L inline-six engine that has horsepower and torque ratings that are competitive with some V-8 engines on the market. To bolster this already powerful engine, Street Scene added a Stillen intake, which gives the engine better breathing. Backing the 4.2L is a 3-inch Street Scene after-cat exhaust.

To help both the vehicle's power source and the mobile electronics system, the factory-supplied battery was replaced with an Optima Yellow Top battery.

The interior was given a few modifications of its own, which built on the well-equipped cabin of this Chevrolet. Installed in the headliner of the TrailBlazer is a Rosen overhead DVD system.

This setup combines a 5-1/2-inch LCD screen with a DVD player in a unit that flips up and stores nearly flush to the headliner.

Bringing some of the exterior color to the inside, Street Scene ordered a set of Cal Trends seat covers. These covers were custom-made for the vehicle, with orange inserts, headrests, and sides, with white everywhere else.

Street Scene originally received this vehicle from Chevrolet, with plans to use it to promote this Chevy as a viable aftermarket platform, at SEMA and at numerous shows across the country.

Lance Laverty and Mike Spagnola from Street Scene drive this vehicle to several shows each year, including SEMA, Cal Truck Jam, and the Laughlin Motorsport Expo. As modified TrailBlazers get more and more attention, the aftermarket will discover that the new Chevy is a great platform to build on.
