It's a 1500 standard cab LS shortbed painted Arrival Blue and wreathed in a custom color blend of flickering green flames.
What burns with green flames? Perhaps the Green Lantern flying too closely to the sun or the faces of passersby as they flare with envy, particularly when Randy Herrington drives by in his '03 Chevrolet Silverado on the streets of Santa Ana, California. It's a 1500 standard cab LS shortbed, painted Arrival Blue and wreathed in a custom color blend of flickering green flames. Arrived from where? A fire in a Lime Jello factory perhaps.
A lot of people worked on this vehicle in the nine months it took to build, and three entities handled the truck's most striking feature - the paintjob. Al Martinez and Wilson Auto Body in Santa Ana, sheathed the Chevy body with its blue paint scheme, and the expert painters at DVS Designs, also in Santa Ana, worked magic on the flickering emerald flames. The striping was handled courtesy of Stripes by Kent in Huntington Beach, California.
Al and the crew at Wilson also took care of the additional body mods. They hung a Street Scene bumper cover and a Trenz grille insert on the front end, and added Street Scene side mirrors. Shaving the tailgate handle gives the fireworks plenty of room to burn unabated. A roll pan from Sir Michaels rounds the curve where the rear bumper used to be, and a SnugTop tonneau from American Camper keeps a tight lid on this verdant furnace.
Under the hood, Wilson Auto Body in Santa Ana installed an Escalade three-piece engine cover kit and gave it some color-coded TLC. Lean down further and you'll spot a Chevy four-speed automatic transmission geared to a 3.73 ratio transmitting kinetic energy to the Lexani wheels wrapped in P285/35ZR22 Nitto NT 555 tires.
Unfortunately, the rear end is too wide for the off-the-shelf variety of Lexani wheels. So, Lexani really stepped up by offering special custom-made 22.9-inch Sterlings - a non-standard size for the company. Master Image Customs in Mission Viejo, California, installed a front and rear Air Ride system with 10 switches commanding multiple axes of gyration, DJM front spindles, two fast-compression 450 speed 'bags, and a Master Image competition 1.6-gallon air tank.
Boww Down Auto Sound in Costa Mesa, California, made some minor modifications to the truck's mobile entertainment system. Building on the existing stock speakers, the crew at Boww Down installed video entertainment from Visonik that includes a 7-inch in-dash monitor and radio receiver combo, and two 6-inch screens in each sunvisor. Hidden under the seat is a Qwestar DVD player that cranks out the video content.
What's next for Randy's truck? He wants to add leather and suede with black seats licked by blue and green flames in order to mimic the exterior paint scheme. That assumes the price is right. He admits to going a little overboard for what is still a daily driver. Granted, he does compete in local shows, and the truck did appear in the Nitto booth at the 2003 SEMA Show. Hopefully, that doesn't mean that a flatbed trailer is in the future for this ride. Because what's the point of putting a torch your way to the everyday?
