We love to see tricked-out Dodge Rams, and Ed definitely impressed us with his creativity on this one. Starting with an '03 Ram, Eddy laid it out over 22-inch SRW Big Nasty wheels, shaved the door handles and taillights, and incorporated LED taillights into the mix. A Trenz billet grille keeps things looking good up front, while a purple topcoat combined with some simple tribal flames and various other wild graphics using airbrushed skulls and silver stripes blended with red on the truck's bottom side make the envelope come alive. According to Eddy, if you opened your eyes in a hurricane, it might closely resemble this paint scheme. Eat your heart out, Mopar fans!
Back in our Apr. '04 issue, we introduced you to an automotive artist named Ed White and showed off a host of his custom truck drawings in an article entitled, "Altered Images." After making contact with this talented automotive artist from Katy, Texas, we complimented Ed on his work and asked him to keep those concept renderings coming. Outdoing himself on the first batch we featured, Ed definitely got our attention with his ability to create stunning concept rides with a focus on unique body modifications and paint treatments. What also impressed the Truckin' crew was Ed's ability to blend styling from old vehicles with exterior characteristics present on new vehicles for a one-of-a-kind look. Who would have thought to take a '66 Chevy Crew Cab pickup and add styling cues to it from a current Chevy Avalanche? Ed did just that on paper and pulled it off so clean, we bet there is someone out there building this concept ride as we speak. On the other hand, how about the red '66 Chevy shortbed with Toyota Tacoma roof skin and '60 Impala dash we unveiled in that Apr. '04 issue? Slung low on 22-inch front and 24-inch rear rims and rubber, we can't imagine someone not jumping at the chance to create a rolling example of this truck. These illustrations are not just attractive ideas on paper, but also visual motivators for many enthusiasts out there to do something with that rusted and worn-out pickup sitting on the side of the house.
The automotive art created by Ed White forces us as enthusiasts to dig deep into our creative minds and analyze different ways to build projects. This month, we decided to take a gander at another collection of renderings Ed sent to our Truckin' offices and explore some more contemporary platforms for applying this customizing sickness.
