OK, what we're going to do is stay ahead of those guys, run faster, hit harder, play smarter, and show them some new tricks. If this sounds like a typical pep talk from a coach, you're wrong - it's the mentality of Justin Veit, owner of this '01 Silverado Crew Cab named Insanity. Jason doesn't take kindly to being second best, or being the second guy to have the latest truck part. When it came time to start the 2004 show season, Jason rolled up his sleeves and got his crew together for a project that quickly got out of control.
Rolling around the Arizona desert with a 10-inch lifted K2500 over 42s was fun, but not as wild as Jason had hoped. After a phone call with Mike at Whiplash Suspensions, the ball started rolling toward a whole new kit that included yanking the 42s, and rollin' hard with 49s on the independent front suspension-equipped Chevy. With the old 10-inch kit removed, the team at Whiplash installed the new 16-inch kit that included a new drop-down bracket, a beefier crossmember, new 10-inch leafs, new steering components, front and rear traction bars, and all-new brake accessories. After each piece was powdercoated black, the brand-new Bilstein reservoir shocks went in place, and the 4-1/2-inch body lift was placed under the cab. The addition of Kodiak steps make getting into the beast possible and with the suspension nailed, Justin went on the hunt for new wheels.
Knowing he wanted the new 49.5-inch Interco IROK tires, Justin wanted the perfect large-diameter wheel to complement the super-sized tires. Jumping on board with the new Colorado Custom Creede wheels, he picked up a set of 20x12-inch billets that add that necessary flash to the muscular lift. Now that the Crew Cab was lifted higher than ever before, Justin moved to finishing off the exterior.
Dropping the rig off at USA Collision in Avondale, Arizona, Justin requested a new look for his Chevrolet. Adding the new '03 Cadillac Escalade front clip, hood, bumper, and Cadillac headlights definitely changed the attitude, and with the billet grille in place, the front end was ready for paint. Once the paint gun was in the capable hands of Kyle at K-Daddyz Kustomz, the truck received a great-looking two-tone paint scheme, complete with black and Kandy Brandy graphics separating the black and House of Kolor Tangelo Pearl. No need for anything else with this killer truck, right? Wrong.
Inside the cabin is where the real insanity begins. Jumping into this machine reveals a cave of total creativity and craftsmanship, beyond all limits. With Cardenal Car Stereo of Glendale, Arizona, in charge of Justin's truck, the crew decided to make this truck one to remember. Removing the entire interior, from the carpet to the headliner, the team at Cardenal brought out the tape measures, mixed up some fiberglass, and went to work on a system and interior that is borderline proof of a mental illness. Flush-fit into the dash is a 12-inch AcceleVision monitor controlled by a Clarion 7-inch all-in-one unit DVD player sending signals to seven other screens. The largest of nine monitors, a 22-inch AcceleVision, is mounted in the custom and killer full-fiberglass headliner, which we'll get back to in a minute. Monitors can also be found in the front headrests, sunvisors, and even the outside rearview mirrors.
Providing some bump to the video are four JL Audio 10-inch W7 subs and two 12-inch W7 subs. Powering all of this earth-shattering bass are four PPI amps painted to match the interior, and highs can be heard screaming out of MB Quart components in each door. Completing all of this sound is automotive artistry at its finest. From the full-length center console housing the subs to the painted dash, to the unbelievable one-piece headliner, the fiberglass work and paint is phenomenal. Covering each fiberglass piece is Kandy Brandy paint with simply sick airbrush art. Billet adorns the Crew Cab as well with door panel plates, billet pedal covers, and a flamed Trenz steering wheel with a Caddy instrument cluster. Finishing off the interior is an alien skull protruding out of the fiberglass console, ensuring guests are welcomed with a feeling of losing their minds.
Drivetrain mods were minimal, since the factory 8.1L Vortec provides plenty of punch for the lifted Crew Cab, and after all, with an interior as wild as Justin's, cruising is all we would want to do in the first place. Speaking of first place, we think trophies will be flying in Justin's direction pretty easily, and with the goal to be the first Crew Cab rolling on 49s, we say congratulations. However, completing his goal was not easy, hence Justin thanks his wife, son, brother, mom, dad, friends, and sponsors.
