Martay Jenkins is used to following his dreams. After playing football for Nebraska-Omaha and graduating to the Denver Broncos in 1999, Martay is making a run for the Arizona Rattlers arena football team. It's been a rough-and-tumble vision quest of tackles and turf that has driven Martay from his native Iowa to the desert Wild West. Football fantasies aren't the only things to have taken root in Phoenix's harsh climate. Martay teamed with Goins Automotive Group (otherwise known as GAME) in Tempe, Arizona, to build an automotive avatar of his other lifelong passion: custom automobiles.
GAME, a custom shop owned by Ken Goins, handled every upgrade on Martay's '03 H2. Ken's one-stop-shop approach is ambitious, since it can be difficult to recruit the diverse expertise needed to execute all aspects of a custom job. Based on what we can see from this particular project, however, Ken appears to have assembled a solid team.
This is no over-the-top install that screams "Hey, look at me" at passersby. We noticed the Hummer at its debut at Truckin's Phoenix Nationals last fall only after driving by a couple times in our golf cart. Once we took a closer look, the quality of the work was apparent. This H2's clean, friendly, and well-executed demeanor appears to reflect the personality of its owner and the skills of the players at GAME. Not that we were the only people to notice this H2's merits: It placed second for Best of Show at the Phoenix Nationals-not a touchdown, but certainly a game well played, and one that we certainly enjoyed watching.
