First to be subtracted from the factory equation were the tailgate handle and emblems, while a Sir Michaels steel roll pan was molded in to replace the bulky factory rear bumper. Complementing the bed treatment are smoothed and plastic-welded bedrails and '04 Chevy truck taillights. Moving forward, the factory mirrors and front bumper were smoothed off to help them flow better with the arrow-straight body. Chris and Shane coated the truck in deep black PPG liquid from the beltline and up to create a classy two-tone for the wildfire to blaze across.
The truck's next alteration appointment was with Pat Maxwell of Maxwell Designs in Spring, Texas, where the licks were laid out and filled in with color. On the traditional blaze is a House of Kolor blend that created the eggshell-white hue used-along with some extensive airbrushing-to get the desired bone effect Matt seems to use on all of his creations. House of Kolor Orange and Green striping were chosen to border the burn patterns and add strong definition to each twist and turn of the interweaving inferno. Upon Pat's last stroke of the pinstriping brush, the truck was delivered back to South Coast Customs where all the wicked paintwork was doused in clear, color-sanded, and rubbed to a fine shine.
Now that this 1-ton land yacht was successfully surfing the pavement and packed a hard-hitting visual punch, the custom focal point shifted to the interior. Advanced Auto Trim in Houston stretched a sea of red and black ostrich skin over the factory seats and moderately modified door panels. Up top, a black ostrich-skin headliner, featuring embossed flames, is complemented by a smoothed and painted overhead console with an airbrushed skull. Black English wool carpet covers the uncut floorboards. The dash was also given a smoothing and covered from top to bottom in deep black paint spiced up with flames and skulls to perpetuate the sinister look. Helping Matt point the front 24s in the right direction is a Billet Accessories Direct (BAD) Carnage steering wheel surrounded by an Escalade gauge cluster, billet shifter, and flamed billet pedals. Matching the caliber of the sights is a symphony of eardrum-blistering audio goods. At the command center of the system is an Alpine IVA-D300 with XM radio and a built-in DVD and MP3 player. Twisted Interiors in The Woodlands Texas, built a custom subwoofer enclosure under the back seat to house two bone-shaking Image Dynamics ID Max10 subwoofers. Powering the bass-thundering subs is a Soundstream Vangough VG1600 amplifier. Custom door panels house Image Dynamics 6-1/2-inch component speakers, which shout wailing guitar licks courtesy of the two Soundstream VG800.2 amps. An Alpine AccelVision monitor displays visual entertainment, while an XBox handles any video game cravings felt during travel.
Since Bone Collector rolled onto the scene, Matt has been hitting up shows and dominating in the dualie class. The entire buildup of this one-of-a-kind Crew Cab is dedicated to good friend and former Houston Astros pitcher Ken Camanitti, who passed away recently. In addition to being a talented athlete on the mound, Ken was a true custom truck enthusiast-a passion he shared with Matt and the crew from Ektensive Metalworks. Matt Spence has created yet another frame-sparkin' custom to add to his collection. It must be tough deciding what to drive. Decisions, decisions.
