If the rumble of 400 hp doesn't tickle your fancy, perhaps the sound of a sonic blast from four 10-inch Kicker subs will. Armando Montlavo from Paramount, California, built his '02 Ford Lightning to be an all-around performer for both show and go. Learning from other shops' mistakes, Armando took the Ford truck through several stages before coming to a place of Zen just long enough to enjoy the boom-boom room.
Standard cab trucks aren't known for their spacious room; however, with the bass coming from this silver rig, sitting cramped is not an option. The thump is supplied by four Kicker L7 10-inch subwoofers mounted in the bed and is heard through a 3x18-inch port cut through the cab wall and bed. Powering this thunder are two Kicker amps mounted in the bed, while three sets of Kicker RS6 components separate the highs from the lows. A Clarion head unit keeps the signals alive, and two 7-inch Eiger Vision monitors supply the video entertainment. Mike at Advanced Mobile Systems in Garden Grove, California, was responsible for the slick install. Other interior accoutrements include Autometer air/fuel, boost, and oil gauges mounted in a Lo-Tek A-pillar pod, a smoothed and painted dash, and suede everywhere.
Behind the Street Scene Speed Grilles lies a 400hp, supercharged 5.4L V-8 ready to run at the drop of a hat. Upping the boost with a smaller pulley and a K&N filter, the truck is a silver blur when passing by. The silver paint was applied by Mike at Advanced Mobile Systems, who also installed the roll pan and Bed Rug kit.
Louie at The Custom Truck Shop in San Dimas, California, busted out the air tools needed to install the DJM 2/4 drop kit. Once everything sat nice and low, the 22x9-1/2-inch Axis Vortex wheels were mounted with Pirelli P-Zero tires measuring 295/30R22 at each corner. Hotchkis antisway bars keep the Lightning glued to the road while Armando enjoys the power.
Armando wanted to thank his wife, Michiyo, and dedicate the truck to his father, Armando Sr. If you hear the rumble or the bass, take a look at the silver blur as this Lightning passes by.
