Class is a quality that many wish for and few possess. In the world of customized trucks a lot of builders and enthusiasts go overboard when it comes to choosing paint schemes and laying down colors. When we come across a truck that features a classy look with just the right blend of modifications, the experience is refreshing; sometimes the less-is-more build theory produces rides that appeal to a wider audience of enthusiasts.
Kelly Dickinson of Sacramento, California, embraced the simple build approach on his '91 Chevy C-1500 and hit it out of the park with his rocker-laying, billet-stuffing beauty. Kelly's truck is a detailed example of smooth hot-rod style blended with aggressive sport truck styling that produces a look that is tough to top.
Beginning with the truck's frame and suspension, Kelly hammered the little standard cab in his home garage with nothing more than some fabrication gear and a whole bunch of courage. Up front the initial altitude adjustment began with a pair of Belltech 2-inch dropped spindles coupled with Slam Specialties RS72 airbags. Air Ride Technologies upper and lower Strong Arm control arms take care of geometry concerns while 22x10-inch Boyd Scorpios mounted on Pirelli P265/35ZR22 low pros fill the front wheel wells.
Moving rearward, Kelly step-notched the rear frame rails and installed Firestone 2600 airbags and a two-link setup, complete with a Watts link to slam and lift the tail end. Matching double deuce Boyds and Pirelli rubber fill out the rear, while two Thomas 337 air compressors, two 5-gallon air tanks, and 1/2-inch airline coupled to 1/2-inch SMC air valves transport the air in and out of the bellows. Believe it or not, this shaved Silverado has never had a Sawzall blade taken to the floor and the rockers almost kiss the asphalt. Kelly performed some extra notching, cutting and fabricating to slam his hot-rod style beauty that low while still maintaining legroom.
