We don't often get a chance to see some of the incredible high-end boats that are running around this country. Most of the ones that do pop up consist of completely detailed boats, but the attached trucks are a stock color and merely pull the mega yachts from point A to point B and back again. We recently saw a glimpse into the world of mega speed-boat builder Nor-Tech, and sure enough, one of its customers had a toterhome that was done up to match the boat perfectly. Arriving at Fastboats in Pompano Beach, Florida, we peered at where our paychecks could never take us. We could still dream, right?
Pulling chores were handled by an '05 Optima 17-foot toterhome. Built on a Freightliner chassis, this truck had it all. Fully customized to provide all the comforts of home while on the road, the Optima toterhome features all LED lighting, 100-gallon fresh-water tank, and a full 7-ft 2-in interior ceiling, so your basketball friends can come, too. This luxo-liner is completely heated and air conditioned, has leather couches, and a satellite TV. If the real ceramic tile in the bathroom doesn't impress you, then the granite tiles in the living area sure should. Optima supplies its floor plans with a 22-inch LCD TV, but this truck's owner opted for a 32-inch version, instead. It had all of the comforts of home, but even better than our own.
Being built on a fullsize rig chassis meant this thing is capable of handling some impressive payloads. With the fifth-wheel hitch on the back deck surrounded by polished aluminum, the Optima can pull as much as 40,000 lbs. Under the forward tilting front clip is a 450hp Mercedes-Benz turbodiesel. Alcoa wheels add a look all their own and the whole truck sits on six 275/80R22.5 Michelin long -range tires. Optima only offers the rig in black or white, so the exterior of this truck must have been customized. The Art of Design (TAOD) in Elkhart, Indiana, is responsible for the entirely metallic-appearing skin. There are bolts, rivets, rust drips, and colorful swaths of red and blue, with steel grates thrown in for good measure, too.
