1986 Chevy C30 Crew Cab Right Front Angle

It's not often that you see a pre-'96 Chevy Crew Cab, and when you do you can bet that it will have an extra set of wheels out back. Until recently, when crew cabs became the most popular choice among -ton trucks, crew cabs were relegated to dualie duty. Not the case with Carlos Roman's '86 C30. It hauls, but in smaller batches.

As a member of Ground Zero, and the owner of a custom audio shop, Carlos had built a relationship with a network of Houston area shops that he could trust with the build of his Chevy. Ray Robins from Mind to Metal was the first person to get a call. Ray body-dropped the C30 over the stock frame. The rear was C-notched and given a custom two-link with Toxic shocks while the front got custom A-arms, Belltech spindles, and KYB shocks. Firestone airbags were used at both ends of the truck, with the `bags getting their air from -inch copper lines. The big, square wheelwells for the square-body were filled with 24x10-inch Centerline Smoothies from Big Wheels `R' Us. The wheels were painted black before being fitted with minimal sidewall 285/25R24 Pirelli Scorpion tires.

Page's Auto Body in Houston, Texas, handled the immense task of smoothing the block-long C30. The door handles, drip rails, parking lights, wiper cowl, stake pockets, and tailgate were all shaved. Since Carlos had plans for most of the truck to be black, the most unforgiving color when it comes to bodywork, countless hours of block sanding was in order. Once it was given several coats of House of Kolor black and blue with a Ferrari yellow break, Pistolero Joe was called upon to apply the graphics. Starting at the front of the bed and wrapping around the tailgate, Joe airbrushed skulls over the yellow. Working freehand and with a lot of room to cover, Joe spent hours getting the layering just right. Carlos admits it's one of his favorite parts of the truck.
