Godfather Customs has been in the custom automotive scene for the past 34 years and has built a reputation for building cool trucks and SUVs. Hal Johnson and the crew have put together another show-stopping Chevrolet HHR and have lived up to the standard that we would expect from well-seasoned truck enthusiasts who are on top of their game.
Godfather Customs started with a brand-new '07 Chevy HHR as their canvas and got to work. Starting with the body, Doug Williams and the Godfather crew shaved the door handles with an Autoloc shaved door handle kit. The front and rear bumpers were smoothed out and, just like that, the HHR was ready for fresh paint. Hal turned to Mike Lewis of Gary's Body Shop out of Decatur, Georgia, to layout the graphics and paint using House of Kolor hues. With the body ready to roll, it was time to add a few exterior details. A Precision wire mesh grille and matching bumper inserts were installed up front for a uniform, custom appearance. Out back, a set of Defender Works custom taillight rings and emblems were added, and Ryno Manufacturing billet running boards were installed on each side to finish off the Chevy's stunning good looks.
With the paint and accessories in place, Godfather Customs installed a set of black powder coated billet 20-inch Bonspeed Wheels wrapped in 225/30R20 Kuhmo Ecsta Supra tires. To eliminate the fender gap, Gold Line Coil Springs supplied the lowering coil set to give the HHR a front 1-inch and a rear 1.6-inch drop. Ron and Casey Scranten from CGS Motorsports supplied a cold air intake and their custom axle-back exhaust system to add some zip to the HHR's step. To top off the performance category, the factory battery was swapped for an Optima battery, which would definitely help out with what Godfather had in mind for the Chevy's audio system.
A complete Kenwood audio/video system, including, an Excelon DDX-8017 head unit with navigation and iPod integration was chosen to control the sounds. Excelon component speakers and amplifiers replaced the factory units, a ProBox sub enclosure took up residence in the HHR's rear storage area, and Stinger wiring ensured that Godfather's project provided the perfect audio experience. The stock interior was given a full custom leather upgrade thanks to Ted Wiggins and his crew at Gibbs Auto Interiors of Jonesboro, Georgia. A set of Ryno Manufacturing billet pedals and rear view mirror were installed inside the Chevy, as was a B.A.D. polished billet steering wheel and U.S. Speedo gauges.
It takes a lot of hard work and dedication to bring a custom vehicle together and Godfather Customs has, yet again, shown that they definitely have what it takes.
