If Chad Jumonville's '99 GMC Sierra looks familiar to you, you've got keen eyes and one heck of a memory. This truck graced the cover of Sport Truck magazine in November of '03, wearing navy blue and silver paint and sporting a huge canvas top. As the owner of Twisted Kustoms in White Castle, Louisiana, Chad couldn't leave well enough alone, so after five years of sitting pretty, the truck was destined for a makeover. When we spotted the latest manifestation of the truck, we knew it deserved the spotlight again.Let's start with what's stayed the same. The rocker-dragging stance comes from the same Belltech drop spindles, Slam Specialties 'bags, and two-link as it did in '03. The sectioned control arms remain as well. We all know that's not enough to lay rocker, so Twisted Kustoms performed a body drop back in '03, completely cutting the cab and bed floors out and welding the cab back in three inches higher, and the completely custom bed-floor six inches higher. Finally the truck had everything in place to tuck 22-inch Billet Specialties SLX26 wheels on Pirelli rubber. Chad also fired up the welder to remove the door handles, tailgate handle, stake pockets, and gas filler door. The factory grille shell and headlights were updated with newer Denali bits, and a cowl-induction hood was used to give the engine cover clearance.
Moving on to what's different, Twisted Kustoms filled in the ragtop, but otherwise left the bodywork alone other than to correct the dents and dings that accumulated over five years. Inside, they crafted a new, full-length center console to house two 12-inch Kicker L7 subwoofers powered by a Rockford Fosgate bd1500 amp. The Kenwood head unit controls the Kickers as well as Boston Acoustic components in the doors and kick panels. For upholstery, Twisted Kustoms covered the headliner in black suede and had Tops Unlimited Seats wrap all four seats in matching black leather and suede. With the interior and exterior fully prepped, the truck said goodbye to two-tone and was sprayed a single color of PPG blue, even the wheels got in on the action.
The resurrected truck is even more clean and elegant than it was in '03, as the solid color doesn't distract the eye from the amazingly smooth body. Chad did add some serious visual impact by painting his '08 GMC 2500 to match. Riding on a Fabtech 8-inch suspension and 37x13.5R24 Toyo Open Country M/Ts and KMC Rockstars, the '08 towing the '99 is a sight to behold.
