Hearing the blast of train horns and taking first glance of a flat black mystery, it's easy to forget what you were doing and instantly get caught up in this insane '02 Peterbuilt 379. Built by Outlaw Customs, outside of Denver, for the sports supplements company Training Day, the flat black and gunmetal grey rig quickly dispels what you thought you knew about cool 18 wheelers. The take-no-prisoners attitude from the onset of the build resulted in a truck that cannot go anywhere without starting a frenzy-exactly what Training Day was hoping for.Discussing the possibility of a big rig serving as a promotional tool, the owners of Outlaw Customs and Training Day veered from the mainstream chrome and LED lights in favor of a sleek, industrial, and almost stealth-looking Pete geared more towards the extreme end of the spectrum. Using the existing Training Day colors, black and grey, the team at Outlaw surrounded themselves with top-of-the-line manufacturers to achieve a truck we're sure you won't soon forget.
As a division of Western Truck Parts, the Outlaw guys know a thing or two about heavy-duty trucks and combining the perfect parts to make the most out of each project. Stripping the '02 Peterbuilt 379 down to just a cab, the Outlaw Customs crew installed the Jones Performance-built custom hood and front fenders. Out back, Cool Truck Components rear fenders were added and instantly transformed the back end of the rig. Outlaw then got creative and fabbed up the wild front bumper, rear bumper, blacked-out grille with visible rivets, cab/sleeper skirts, and tool/battery boxes. After prepping the body for paint, Outlaw flew out Greg Boarman and Ben Jackson, from First Class Services, to spray on the PPG Delfleet Evolution flat black and flat gunmetal grey. Final assembly saw a drop-down visor bolted on, custom mirror brackets made, and Headwinds headlights replacing the old units. All-back exhaust stacks were capped with custom gun barrel-style tips for a look that screams "go ahead, make my day." The original Peterbuilt wheels were powdercoated black and Bridgestone R280 tires round out the wild rig.Inside the large cab, Outlaw teamed with Empire Upholstery, who created the leather headliner, door panels, and recovered the seats in brown leather and suede. The billet steering wheel is from Roadawg and the twisted steel gearshift lever built by Outlaw allows anyone to run through the 18 gears in style.
We know it's not a Chevy, Ford, or Dodge, but we also know it's hard to deny the cool factor this rig brings with it. Next time you look in your rearview and see something sinister, you may want to quickly put on your blinker and get the heck out of the way.
