In the Lone Star State, there's no shortage of custom shops that are willing and able to transform a truck into a work of art. When Ruben Reyes had a vision of what his '93 Chevy C1500 could become, he knew, out of all the shops in Texas, that Paul Brown and the crew at South Coast Customs would be able to deliver.
Paul Brown, while at his South Coast Customs shop in Spring, Texas, worked long nights to pull off the suspension build. McGaughy's 2-inch drop spindles were combined with Firestone 26C 'bags and 1/2-inch plumbing with GC 450 valves to give the Bow Tie plenty of drop. The Yokohama Avid tires and 22-inch Panther five-spoke wheels tuck into the fenders just right.
The '93 already had the simple, timeless lines that made '88-'98s the staple of the custom truck scene, so the crew at South Coast Customs picked up their welders and body hammers to remove any distractions from the clean lines of the truck. A California combo was grafted onto the rear of the truck, sealing the tailgate shut in the process. The stock taillights were tossed in favor of vertical Cadillac lights that were frenched into the rear corners. A smooth steel front bumper was added up front along with billet grille inserts, clear corner lights, and a 3-inch cowl hood. Everything in between the bumper and the combo skin was shaved, including the door handles, stake pockets, and gas door. Inside the bed, a 10-gallon aluminum fuel cell from Ekstensive Metalworks was bolted in before it was hidden from view by a low-profile hard tonneau.
Moving into the interior, Paul fabricated a full-length center console with a 3-D skeleton to house the copious amount of audio equipment that was to be crammed into the single cab. Two JL Audio 10W6V2D4 subs thump from behind the seats, powered by a 500-watt JL amp, while the Focal 6 1/2-inch speakers in the doors and both pairs of Eclipse 4x6-inch speakers in the dash and C-pillar are powered by a 300-watt JL amp. Mounted just below the skeleton's throat in the console is an Alpine IVA-W200 head unit that Ruben uses to orchestrate the symphony of audio components. With the audio chores handled, Ruben turned to Junior's Upholstery in Conroe, Texas, where a set of Suburban bucket seats were wrapped in light brown leather with brown gator centers. Finishing off the interior are a Billet Specialties steering wheel and billet gauges and trim.
With the center console and dash all prepped, Max Maxwell at South Coast Customs, handled the paint. From the Plymouth Prowler Orange basecoat to the highlights on the center console's skeleton and the menacing skulls and real fire beneath the blue and silver graphics on the exterior sheetmetal, not an inch of the truck was left untouched. The graphics and airbrushing create several layers of interest on the truck, as the flames and skulls appear to be underneath the warm, bronze-orange basecoat.

The result is a timeless body style combined with an exterior and interior that would gather a crowd on their own. Combine the two and you've got the makings for what's sure to be one of the top trucks at any show it rolls into.
