Without question, the '07+ GM fullsize truck is the "it" truck right now with more and more of them popping up at shows and cruising up and down the highways in style. Mike Malcolm, of Grande Prairie, Alberta, Canada, told us, "I've always wanted a truck on air, so it might as well be a new-body style GMC." That kind of attitude is what we need to see more of in the world of custom trucks. Buying his truck on May 2, 2009, Mike quickly got to work getting it on the ground.
Using an Ekstensive Metalworks '07+ GM front end kit, Mike 'bagged the front with Slam RE-7 'bags, 1/2-inch hardline, and 3/8-inch Airlift valves. Out back, a KP Components cantilever four-link, Slam 'bags, and more 1/2-inch stainless line bring the bed down to terra firma. LSM Powdercoating applied the Viper green coating on much of the suspension and the two airtanks were mounted inside the front bumper. Twenty-four-inch Boss 313 wheels wrapped in 285/30R24 Pirelli PZero Nero tires create the rolling stock and tuck deep inside each fender. Rumor has it, a body drop is in the works for the ultimate slammed appearance.
Powering the GMC is a 5.3L V-8 equipped with an aFe intake, Edge programmer, and Flowmaster exhaust. To clear the modified wheel tubs, the battery was relocated and for a show-ready look, much of the plastics were painted green and pinstriped.
Currently, much of the truck is paint-matched black for a clean and stealthy look, but as you can see in the rendering, soon the body will match the Viper green powdercoated suspension pieces with a classic two-tone. New Asanti paint-accented wheels are also on the wish list, as are an even bigger brake kit than the 14-inch SSBC kit currently bolted in place.
The interior is also underway, with a Pioneer Avic-D1 controlling two Audison amps that power Phoenix Gold 61/2-inch components and a 12-inch Phoenix Gold sub. A new sub box is in the works and paint will be finding its way inside soon as well. Mike told us that he's hoping to have the interior and bed finished by early Spring, so be on the lookout for this up-and-coming Sierra hitting the show season this year and be sure to check back for a full feature upon its completion.
