Every day we're flooded with requests to be featured in the magazine and most of those requests are more befitting of our Readers' Rides section. The trucks are very nice, custom rides, but usually don't meet our strict requirements for a full feature. That is, usually. When we opened up Cesar Davila Chapa's email and took a look at his '08 GMC Sierra, we couldn't hit reply fast enough. This 18-year-old custom truck enthusiast is trying to raise the bar for first-time projects. As he told us, "It's a personal goal to have a cover truck before I get into college." Starting college this fall, Cesar has his work cutout for him, but with the quality of the GMC to this point, it would be foolish to doubt him.

Starting like so many of us do, Cesar had the truck 'bagged by a local shop who promised good work, but once the GMC was picked up, the frame was hacked and unsafe. Deciding it was too late to turn back, he dropped the truck off with B2D Customs, in Houston, for a stock-floor body drop. Using 2x4-inch square tubing, the Sierra now has a full chassis with Slam Specialties airbags front and rear, 1/2-inch air line, GC valves, and a two-link with Panhard bar out back. Close attention was paid to overall appearance, as the frame was painted dark cherry metallic with some of the suspension receiving a coat of pearl white. What really drops your jaw on the ground are the 26-inch Intro billet wheels on each corner. Receiving the very first set of 26-inch billet wheels from Intro, Cesar's GMC has the right hot-rod appeal, but with trendy large hoops. Pirelli 295/30R26 tires wrap each precious piece of metal.

That's where Cesar is at right now, but as the rendering shows, a custom two-tone paint job is in the works and before Tony Hernandez at Street Obsessions applies the paint, the Sierra will lose its third brake light, rear bumper and will receive a Cali combo. Inside, as you can see in the photos, the interior is gutted and awaiting a full back wall of 15-inch subs from the guys at Kingpin Kustoms. Component speakers will be placed in custom fiberglass door panels and the dash will be painted to match. Black leather and cherry ostrich will complete the interior. Under the hood, Cesar has big plans for the 4.8L V-8 that include: a twin turbo setup, March pulleys, LS2 Professional Products intake, and chrome turbo headers. With all that power, Cesar will not have a hard time roasting the tires on his way to Baylor University.

Cesar was quick to thank his father, who helped show him that by working hard, anything is possible. With that kind of thinking, maybe that cover opportunity will be sooner than later.
