Shea Walker is familiar with the ’99-’02 GM trucks since he had already built a 2002 Silverado. When that truck was done, the Ozark, Arkansas, resident needed another project and that is where this Sierra comes into play. After buying it in May of 2007, Shea began the long, arduous process of building an amazing custom truck. Now it is complete and ready to tear up the streets of Ozark.
After bringing the truck home, Shea had Barry Wiser, of Wiser Suspension in Havana, Arkansas, build a suspension that would not only function well, but also look good. After smoothing the frame, Barry had the Choppin’ Block upper and lower control arms, rear link bars, and differential cover chromed. He also had the McGaughy’s 2-inch drop spindles, rear axlehousing, and shocks powdercoated blue to match the soon-to-be-painted body. Upon receiving the components, Barry installed the spindles and arms up front and a custom cantilevered two-link with a Panhard bar out back, making this Sierra sit nice and low. From here, Barry went to work bending new brake lines to fit the new suspension. With the rest of the chassis taken care of and the rear axle narrowed a total of three inches, Barry bolted on a set of 24x9.5-inch Viscera VSC778 wheels with paint-matched inserts and Kumho Ecsta 275/30R24 tires.
Under the hood, Shea had a surprise in store. Where the factory engine once sat, now sits a 5.7L LS1. Barry again had a hand in making the LS1 fit and look amazing. A polished Weiand Gen III intake grabs the attention of anyone looking under the hood along with the other polished pieces that include a Street and Performance throttle body, air filter, as well as pulleys and brackets. The firewall has been smoothed and painted along with the engine plastics. A set of JBA shorty headers and a Flowmaster exhaust squeeze even more performance out of the LS engine. Needing more room for the LS1, Barry relocated the battery under the center console. From here, Shea went to work on the body.
Wanting a custom, clean look, Shea opted for a Denali grille with a billet insert and a Denali bumper also with a billet insert. To keep with the clean look, Shea had the door handles, tailgate, and third brake light shaved. He also replaced the factory taillights with those from an ’84 Cadillac Deville. Out back, Shea installed a Grant Kustoms Cali Combo rear skin. With the body shaved and smoothed by the guys at Midnight Alley Custom Shop, in Russellville, Arkansas, Shea then had them drench the whole truck in PPG’s Daytona Blue paint.
Continuing with the smooth look on the inside, Shea had D&B Upholstery, in Van Buren, Arkansas, cover the factory bucket seats with black Katzkin leather and install black carpet on the floor. The dash was smoothed and painted to match the truck and billet accents were installed throughout the cab. Not wanting to leave the headliner stock, Shea had a fiberglass headliner fabricated, painted, and installed. Finally, Shea installed a paint-matched ’06 Tahoe center console to finish off the looks of the interior. For sound, Shea turned to JVC for their touchscreen head unit and Pro Bass for their components as well as a 10-inch subwoofer behind the seat. All of this sound first goes through a Rockford Fosgate amp then a Pro Bass equalizer for optimum sound quality.
Shea missed nothing on this truck build and we thank him for that. This is truly a well-built custom and something Shea and his friends and family can be very proud of.
