Mike absolutely flogged his green machine and pushed the old C10 as far as he could.
Whenever Mike Sullivan wrote down “wrench” on his tech sheet for what he does 9-5, you get a good idea of how cool this 62-year-old gearhead is. He came out to see what all the fuss was about, and after a truck couldn’t make it out because of a trailering accident, Mike stepped in with his purpose-built ’72 C10. Working at No Limit Engineering, in San Bernardino, California, Mike gets to work on customer’s cars all day long, but it was his personal truck that got him really excited, as he boxed the frame for strength, raised the front crossmember, bolted on McGaughy’s 2-inch drop spindles, and modified ¾-ton coil springs to fit the front end. Out back, the suspension was lowered with McGaughy’s 2-inch drop coils, a 4-inch step notch, 2-inch lowering blocks, and a No Limit Panhard bar. The end results netted Mike with a 5th Place finish in the road course. Under the hood lies a 5.3L from a 2000 Silverado, which was modified with Hedman headers, Spectre cold-air intake, and Gibson mufflers. That same Silverado donated its 4L65E trans and Mike did a great job of hammering down on his old Chevy. If there was a smoky braking award, it would have been no contest, as Mike stopped his truck with 12-inch OEM disc brakes and drums out back and easily smoked his BFG tires when competing in the stop box. Mike’s C10 is easy to duplicate and it’s fun to drive, which makes it a perfect fit for THROWDOWN.
