One of the trucks we were eagerly awaiting to check out in person was Julien Maurel’s ’01 Silverado with a turbocharged LQ9 pumping out 800 ridiculous horsepower. Driving down the tarmac, Julien’s truck looked the part with the Lamborghini satin silver paint and flat black ACR stripe, HD front end, and black SS wheels. Unfortunately, the truck was still being dialed in at 3:00 a.m. and the ECU wasn’t quite where it needed to be, and it had spark plug blow-by. Limiting the boost to 4 psi and shifting at 4,500 rpm, Julien’s truck left a lot of performance on the table. Because he still wanted to have fun throwing his truck around the track, he brought his Silverado out despite not being 100-percent and we applaud him for it. We’re expecting big things from him next year, as his engine and turbo combo have propelled a similar Chevy to mid-9 second timeslips. His goal is to run 9s in the quarter-mile and then run 200 mph in the standing mile, which with his gearing, he could possibly do. Even with his truck not running at its best, Julien pushed his silver Chevy hard around the road course and managed a Fourth Place finish in the quarter-mile and stop box.
