1st Place

No stranger to slinging a truck around a race course, Dan Ward made a commitment to run as hard as he possibly could when the '04 Sierra was loaded up on the trailer and the 2,071 mile trip to Bowling Green, Kentucky, was made. Arriving at Beech Bend with a borrowed wiring harness and last ditch computer tune, no one really knew what to expect from the truck that was now sporting a mechanical throttle body, a makeshift throttle cable bracket from a junkyard, and had no working gauges in the truck. It was far from pretty, but the LSX376 roared to life and propelled the GMC to wins in the autocross and slalom course. The Chassis by Aaron Iha suspension makes the truck handle more like a Corvette than a pickup, and the other competitors weren't even close. The dragstrip and speed stop was where the truck struggled. Horrible reaction times, combined with 589 lb-ft of torque at 3,100 rpm made launches impossible, and he quickly learned that bouncing the Engine off the rev limiter wasn't the fastest way down track. Entering the speed stop box backwards, he pushed the clutch pedal so hard, he actually knocked the clutch master cylinder through the firewall. Old racing friends from Georgia were on hand to help, and with some self-tapping screws the truck was back up and running quick enough to win the overall title. Built to go fast, Novakane provides a tried and true formula for performance truck success.
