As the trends in the industry change, so do trends for individual people. Some people go from owning trucks with wild graphics, to trucks with very simple paint schemes or from 'bagged cars to lifted trucks. Andrew Schoen, of Silverhill, Alabama, went from crazy-lifted Hummers to 'bagged and body-dropped versions. His previous H2 was massively lifted on 54-inch Boggers. His latest, an '06 Hummer H2 SUT, has a whole different attitude and altitude.
After burning up transmissions with his last Hummer, Andrew wanted something a little more down to earth. Starting with Art Morrison mandrel-bent framerails, Andrew and some buddies swapped the body over and scrapped the factory frame. Andrew made custom control arms to lay the front end on the ground. Out back, a two-link with a Panhard bar was installed, which brings the rear down to match the front. To finish off the rolling chassis, on went a set of 28-inch Dub Mamba wheels with Fullway rubber.
Since the Hummer was originally an AWD 3/4-ton, Andrew had to convert everything to two-wheel-drive, 1/2-ton. A 4L60E transmission from a Silverado was mated to the Hummer's 6.0L engine and dropped in. To get the massive wheels to tuck in the rear, Andrew had the rearend from an '03 Tahoe cut down 8 inches and installed.
In order to make this Hummer really stand out, Andrew and his coworkers from Jubilee Paint and Body shaved a ton of the H2's excess baggage. This included the door handles, mirrors, side markers, hood latches, gas door, and emblems. He is still planning on shaving the tailgate handle and the hood vents. As far as paint, Andrew doesn't know if he will repaint it yellow and call it The Humble Bee, or go another direction.
When asked about the audio, Andrew says, "something loud and crazy. We are going to put over 30 speakers in this thing." The interior plastics will be painted and the seats will be leather. Andrew has a lot of work ahead of him, but says the truck will be ready for the 2013 show season. He wanted to send a big thanks to Donnie Bray, Shane Mitchell, Jason Thorbecke, and everyone else who had a hand in the build so far.
