Trucks are meant to be used as, well, trucks. Hauling, towing, helping every friend you have on Facebook move to a new house, trucks are beloved by every owner for their versatility. Love is a good word to describe how the owners of this '59 Chevy felt during its 63 years of providing more than just transportation. Parked in the comforts of a garage since it was new, Terry Temples of Alpharetta, Georgia, paid the original owner $950 for the pink slip back in 1967. Fast-forward some 37 years later and Terry dropped the truck off with James Boyd of Road King Customs, for a complete overhaul. The rest, they say, is history.

Terry had to take special care with such a sentimental truck. After all, Terry did drive his wife, Linda, to the hospital when she gave birth to their first son, Wesley. James Boyd handled every aspect of the truck makeover himself. Keeping most of the original styling, James shaved the door handles, ditched the hood ornament, and removed the tailgate hardware. Rolled into the Road King Customs' paint booth in Woodstock, Georgia, James applied several coats of Viper Red to the original sheetmetal. James' wife, Jennifer, handled the wood staining for the bed, and finished them off with stainless stringers.

Thanks to a boxed frame, Heidts' Mustang II front clip with disc brakes, and notched rear 'rails, the Chevy had a performance suspension ready to cruise. The entire chassis was painted red to match the body, while billet American Racing Torq wheels are wrapped in Kumho tires, creating the requisite hot rod look. Providing the heartbeat is a small-block 350ci V-8 built by Grimes Twister Engines, in Alpharetta, Georgia, with dress-up items like Billet Specialties Tru-Trac serpentine system, chrome air cleaner, valve covers, and Edelbrock intake manifold.

Road King Customs also transformed the interior by wrapping bucket seats in two-tone leather, which also covers the custom door panels, kick panels, and a unique center console containing the shifter for the 700-R4 tranny and window switches. Matte paint adorns the dash fitted with TPI-Tech gauges and a mounting boss for the Flaming River tilt column capped with a Billet Specialties steering wheel.

Simple, stylish, and sophisticated, Terry's truck doesn't try too hard to impress with anything wild and obnoxious, it simply makes you look at it and give him a big thumbs up.
