Some guys start building custom vehicles at a young age. They make mistakes, and they learn from them. Other guys start a little later and learn from the mistakes that everyone else makes. These guys are the smart ones. Daniel Loper of Newberry, Florida, is of the latter. He has been in the custom truck scene since he was 19 but waited 13 years to build himself a truck. This gave him enough time to really figure out what he wanted. Daniel chose a 1989 Chevy C30 Crew Cab longbed and immediately began building it the way he envisioned it.

Daniel began by cutting up the stock frame in order for the truck to lay rocker. With the frame cut and boxed, the suspension was rebuilt. The frontend was brought down to Earth using Belltech 3-inch drop spindles, Airlift 2600 'bags, and Belltech shocks. Out back, Daniel fabricated a triangulated four-link and bolted matching Airlift 'bags to it. The suspension was capped off with 22-inch Incubus wheels.
After the proper stance was achieved, Daniel began work on the body. This started with removing all of the unnecessary components such as the emblems, driprails, antenna, door handles, mirrors, taillights, and tailgate handle. A license plate bucket was then frenched into the tailgate and a custom rollpan was built for the rear. In the bed, a sheetmetal bridge cover and wheel tubs were welded in. With the body straight, several coats of DuPont Phantom Grey metallic and Dark Cherry were sprayed. A satin clear was sprayed over the top, sealing in the two-tone scheme.

From the outside, Daniel's truck looks finished, but he still has a lot to do. The interior and engine are yet to be completed. Daniel also plans to scrap the 22-inch wheels in favor of a set of 26-inch hoops. When asked if there was anyone he wanted to thank, Daniel quickly responded with, "My friends, family, and Freaks."
