Two years ago we held our first east coast THROWDOWN at Holley's LS Fest. We had heard of the LS Fest event but hadn't been and weren't sure who we could get to come beat on their trucks. Of the entrants, we had a lot of the same old beater trucks that guys added nitrous to. However, one of the contestants surprised us with his truck. It was a 'bagged regular-cab shortbed 2004 Silverado with custom paint and interior, and 22- and 24-inch Billet Smoothie wheels. The owner, Jason Logan of Falmouth, Kentucky, had never taken his 5.3L-equipped Bow Tie onto any racetrack. We were glad to see someone that was tired of sitting under an E-Z UP and drinking beers. He would rather see exactly what his truck could do. When the tire smoke had cleared, Jason was toward the back of the pack but had a smile ear-to-ear.

Obviously, Jason's truck didn't start out looking this cool. Working in a paint and body shop, he wanted a killer project on which he could showcase his skills. He started by tearing into the factory suspension. Ride Tech control arms and Slam Specialties RE-7 'bags bring the front end down, while a KP Components cantilevered four-link with a Watt's link brings the rear down to match. Before the rear was put back together, Jason had the axlehousing narrowed and Moser axles installed, as well as Richmond 4.10 gears. For added sway control, a Ride Tech Muscle Bar sway bar was bolted on up front. To this suspension, Jason added a set of 22-inch and 24-inch Centerline Smoothie wheels shod in Kumho rubber, size 265/35R22 and 305/35R24.

Next, Jason focused on the body. Since this is his area of expertise, he wanted to make it look awesome, but still be fairly simple. He achieved this by shaving the doors and tailgate and installing a roll pan out back. Jason then sprayed a base of Galaxy Silver and laid down hot rod-inspired flames before spraying a topcoat of Victory Red, both of which are factory colors. The negative flames look perfect and flow smoothly all the way to the rear of the bed. Before putting his spray gun away, Jason added color to several of the plastic pieces under the hood as well as the plastics from the interior.

Happy with the look of his truck, Jason wanted some more power out of it. This came by way of a Vararam intake with a nitrous spray plate and 150hp jets, Pacesetter headers, and a Magnaflow 3-inch exhaust. Keeping the 5.3L running cool is a pair of Perma Cool electric fans. To handle the extra power from the engine mods, Jason had a 4L60E custom-built and installed it with a Yank 3,200-stall convertor.

Moving inside, Jason had a sub box built to house four 12-inch MTX Audio Thunder 9500 subs. The seats are covered in gray leather with red stitching. Finishing off the interior, a BAD steering wheel was bolted to the steering column.

Jason said that he had a blast beating on his truck at THROWDOWN, even though he busted two U-joints and bent a link bar three times.
