We've always said that if something is worth doing, it's worth overdoing. You could build a truck that's simply low, or you could build a truck that is absolutely slammed. You could build a sound system that's loud, or you could build one that vibrates fillings loose. Or, in this case, you could roll on big billets, or you could tuck absolutely massive 24x15-inch ones. For Evan Pagourtzis of Houston, going to the extreme was an obvious choice. With that philosophy in mind, he picked up a '98 Chevy Tahoe and got down to business.
Since Evan knew he wanted his Tahoe to have a stunning stance, he and his friend David began building a new custom frame using 2x3-inch steel tubing. Once complete, a quartet of Slam Specialties 'bags was bolted on, 2600s in the front and 2800s out back. Dual Viair compressors supply the 'bags with air, and a custom two-link stabilizes the rearend. To make room for the enormous new wheels, the rear axle was narrowed a whopping 19½ inches. Finally, the 24x9½ and 24x15-inch Intro Vista II billets could be wrapped in fresh Pirelli rubber and installed.
Standing back and observing his handiwork, Evan was pleased with the results but knew it needed a little more to be presentable. First, a 4-inch cowl hood, shaved front bumper, rear roll pan, and black projector headlights were added for custom flair. Evan then sprayed the truck with a fresh coat of matte blue paint, nicely offsetting the polished wheel lips. Under the Tahoe's hood resides a rebuilt 355ci V-8, complete with a Holley 650-cfm carb, RV cam, Edelbrock intake, and custom 3-inch exhaust. The truck's interior is still incomplete at this stage, with a simple vinyl-wrapped dash and sheetmetal bridge over the rear suspension components.
Over the course of the last year and a half, Evan turned this once-stock Tahoe into a killer custom. Although it has a long way to go before it's complete, it still snaps necks everywhere it goes, and that's certainly something to be proud of.
