“Speak softly, and carry a big stick.” This famous phrase and ideology from President Theodore Roosevelt has been used when referencing foreign diplomacy, proper behavior by athletes, and it has even been used when raising young boys. Applicable in each of these areas, the same philosophy translates into the custom truck world. Take for instance Austin Mayfield, of Springdale, Arkansas, and his 2013 F-250. Subtle and unflashy, much like Austin’s personality, his truck may get overlooked at a show, but the attention to detail, massive upgrade’s list, and imposing stance help flex plenty of fullsize truck-muscle -- just like Roosevelt was illustrating with his speak softly quote.
Austin is the ringleader of Arkansas’ Big Truck Mafia, a custom truck club that is branching out into manufacturing and selling of lifted truck parts. To help bring awareness of his endeavor, he picked up a 2013 Ford F-250 and sought to have it ready for the 2013 SEMA show in Las Vegas. To achieve this lofty goal, Austin needed to surround himself with talented people he could trust to get the job done right and on schedule. You can’t be associated with a truck club called Big Truck Mafia with a stock suspension, so the F-250 was driven over to Arkansas Customs, also in Springdale, where an 8-inch BDS Suspension lift kit was installed along with dual Fox 2.0 shocks. A BDS dual-shock steering stabilizer was also bolted on right after new gear oil was placed in the Mag-Hytec diff covers. With the new ride height, Arkansas Customs added killer 22x12 Fuel Nutz wheels mounted to Fuel’s own 38-inch Mud Gripper M/T tires. To help everyone hop into the lifted truck, Amp Research power running boards were also added.
“Seeing Austin’s excitement when we photographed his truck helped remind us why we do what we do.”
The new look only fueled Austin’s desire to make his Ford a real stunner, but he still wanted more than just a lift kit. Arkansas Customs then bolted on front and rear Backwoods Bumpers sheetmetal bumpers, which were built to Big Truck Mafia (BTM) specs complete with Rigid Industries LED lightbars and Rigid Dually off-road lights. Speaking of lights, the Super Duty also features one-off headlight housings by Axis Automotive Lighting, which took the time to etch the projector lenses with “The Heist” and “BTM.” Those truly unique touches further separate this F-250 from the other big trucks cruising around Arkansas. Taking things to the next level, Complete Customs stepped in and applied the 3M matte grey aluminum vinyl wrap from bumper to bumper. Keeping the truck functional, a BedRug was installed over the bed floor, while dual Undercover SwingCases add storage without taking up too much bed space and an Undercover SE tonneau cover keeps it all protected. Final mods to the body include smoked LED taillights, dual Rigid LED lightbars mounted above the windshield, a one-off BTM mesh grille with LED lightbars, and a milled billet aluminum 7-inch exhaust tip. Both the grille and exhaust tip are parts Austin hopes to make available to the masses in 2014.
Powering the Blue Oval is Ford’s 6.7L Power Stroke turbodiesel that has been outfitted with an H&S intake, tuner, and dual Optima batteries. Inside the four doors, Katzkin black leather and grey suede seat covers, along with a suede-wrapped headliner add to the high-end luxury feel of the exterior. Designs by King (DBK) also painted the fake wood plastics.
Seeing Austin’s excitement when we photographed his truck helped remind us why we do what we do. He wanted to give a big thank you to Arkansas Customs, Big Truck Mafia, and his sponsors for all of their support. Austin told us, “Without them and the Lord, we would not be where we are today.”

Another unique BTM part is the 7-inch exhaust tip that is made of milled billet aluminum.
Fuel wheels and tires provide the Super Duty with the requisite big lifted truck look.
