Gallium is a soft, silvery metal that is so unique in elemental structure, it will actually melt in a human hand. It’s a rare metal for sure, but so is the new 2014 Tundra. Compared to custom Chevys, Fords, and Rams, you just don’t see as many tricked-out Toyotas. Perhaps, much like the chemical element, we’re drawn to Cody Elkin’s incredible Tundra because of its special qualities. With a 14-inch lift and 40-inch tires, it’s huge. Thanks to more than 400 ponies, it’s also quick. Add to that a custom matte metallic aluminum wrap that you just don’t see every day and a leather interior typically found in a European exotic, and you have yourself a rarified custom indeed.

Cody Elkins Designs, Cody’s custom truck business, has taken off in recent years with no less than two cover trucks since 2012. He knew his chances were slim to land on our cover with a Tundra build, as they simply don’t sell magazines, but he didn’t care about that -- he just wanted to create something unique. Since there are so few custom Tundras on the road, he jumped at the chance to be one of the first to transform the refreshed 2014 model.

First up, Cody partnered with his longtime suspension company of choice, 3rd Coast Suspension, to design and fabricate a 14-inch lift. With the help of B&C Offroad owner Kevin Russell, Cody bolted on a large drop-down crossmember up front, with large strut spacers, and Fox coilovers. Out back, a four-link was welded together and complemented by matching Fox coilovers. Cody tells us the Tundra is one of the best riding big trucks he’s ever been behind the wheel of. Speaking of wheels, the 2014 Toyota features American Force’s latest faceplate design, the Evade. Thanks to the Tundra’s five-lug bolt pattern, the huge 24x14 wheels look one part hot rod, one part monster truck. It’s a look that is simply stunning. Matching the American Force wheels for form and function, Cody chose Toyo’s latest big-diameter M/T tire, the 40x15.50R24LT Open Country.

Power to spin those massive rollers is left up to the iForce 5.7L V-8. Rated at 381 hp from the factory, this Tundra benefits from Bully Dog’s latest tuner, the GT-T. Tuning Toyotas is no easy feat, but Bully Dog’s mad scientists have cracked the code. Helping the V-8 breathe easier, an S&B intake and Flo-Pro exhaust round out the go-fast mods.

With the truck lifted high and running strong, Cody looked to make the Tundra’s body turn heads everywhere he went. Pixelwerks Media, of Houston, wrapped the Tundra in a special matte metallic aluminum wrap that seemingly changes from bright silver to tungsten to bronze, depending how the sun hits it. Plain an Simple by Design built a slick set of HID/LED headlights and tinted the tails and third brake light. Also taking front and center on the leading edge, Racemesh Trucks fabricated a custom grille, hood insert, bumper insert, and even mesh covers for the foglights. Lighting was a paramount concern for Cody, as he’s often on the road late at night trailering his custom freestyle motocross bikes and gear. To guarantee no object or obstacle would surprise him at night, no less than 10 Rigid LED lights and lightbars (two 40-inch double-rows, two 40-inch single-rows, two 20-inch double-rows, four Dualie cubes) project light onto the road ahead. We can only imagine what kind of UFO oncoming traffic think is heading toward them when Cody has all the lights on. Out back, another set of Rigid Dually cube LED lights was fitted to the bumper and covered in mesh from Racemesh, while an UnderCover LUX tonneau cover protects the Bullet Liner–coated bed.

Getting up into the beast was a challenge, so to help make things much easier, a set of AMP Research power running boards was installed. Once you’re inside the cavernous confines of the interior, you’ll instantly notice the Alea Platini Series diamond-quilted leather seats. Solar Ray’s, of Weatherford, Oklahoma, handled the leather seat cover installation. Matching leather was placed atop the dash, as were matching Racemesh A/C vents. Solar Ray’s also built the under-seat enclosures for the Kicker subs. Kicker amps power those and the Kicker mids and highs found in each door. Weathertech mats keep the carpet nice and clean.

Completing the Toyota with time to spare for the 2013 SEMA show, Cody is already working on another new project. Never being satisfied is a great quality to have -- especially when the end result is as rare as this metallic Tundra.
