While fullsize trucks in the U.S. have gotten ever more opulent with premium features, the midsize truck market has not been as lavishly endowed for the most part. The formerly basic Toyota Tacoma and Nissan Frontier are starting to feature more upscale features like navigation, heated seats, and other niceties, but both of them pale in comparison to the Volkswagen Amarok. The 2015 GMC Canyon made news for featuring LED running lights. The new 2015 Volkswagen Amarok Ultimate has LED running lights, plus, the only available bi-xenon HID headlights in a midsize truck in the world, VW claims.
In addition to the spiffy headlights, the 2015 Volkswagen Amarok Ultimate also features polished 19-inch alloy wheels, reverse camera, folding and heated exterior rearview mirrors, Volkswagen's RNS 315 navigation with mobile phone integration, and Alcantara upholstery.
Other updates to the 2015 model include the addition of the eight-speed automatic transmission to the SingleCab model with all-wheel-drive and the availability of the more-powerful 177hp TDI engine in rear-wheel-drive models. The Volkswagen Amarok has many fans in the U.S., but VW has said there are no plans to import the current Amarok to the U.S. market. However, a larger model optimized for the tastes and needs of the U.S. market could come at some point.
