EVENT NAME: Slammin' and Jammin' 2007

Celebrating 20 years of action, the Spring California Truck Jam was held at the beautiful Verizon Amphitheater at Hidden Valley Park in Irvine, California, on Sunday, May 6, 2007. Attracting hundreds of custom and classic show trucks and SUVs, the variety ranged from cover trucks to under construction, full size trucks and SUVs to mini trucks, and ridiculously lifted trucks to trucks body dropped to the doors. Many enthusiasts and locals spent the day checking out the Burnout Contest, Air Hop Contest, Bikini Contest, and the Shocker Monster Truck Crush, while others relaxed in shade provided by the trees at this perfect Orange County venue for a custom truck show.

The State 2 State journey culminated Friday night at Lake Havasu, Arizona, with groups of trucks and boats reuniting coincidentally on the final stretch into town. Tired from a full day's journey that for some had lasted upwards of fifteen hours start to finish, there was just enough time to grab a bite to eat before falling asleep to the sound of the hotel's air conditioning.

The 2007 State 2 State Cruise made three stops on the way out to Lake Havasu, Arizona, for the Havasu Havoc Show. The first was at Ultra Wheels, in Fullerton, where trucks slowly gathered as the sun rose higher and higher. Stop number two brought the cruise to Hooters in Anaheim, for some wings and trivia, before going a few blocks down the street to JBM for Stop 3, the third and final stop. With plenty of trucks, boats, support, and action, this year's State 2 State Cruise was a blast.

An immense wave of automotive enthusiasts and business types washed across Las Vegas on October 30 to November 1 for the 2006 SEMA Show. This annual aftermarket industry convention showcases the latest automotive hard parts and show trucks. Here is a quick overview of the trucks that we saw at the show. Look for SEMA truck and product coverage in Truckin's Issue 3.

LOCATION: Line-X in Huntington Beach, CA
PURPOSE: Toy Drive & Open House Show; unwrapped toy collection for next day's C.H.O.C. Cruise; big raffle; BBQ with VERY good hamburgers and hotdogs; mingle with fire department next door.

The 2006 California Jamboree After Dark Car, Truck, and Hot Rod Show & Cruise provided plenty of Saturday afternoon and evening entertainment for Long Beach, California, enthusiasts and residents.Attracting a variety of custom rides, this marked After Dark's first year of hopefully many more to come. Beginning in the afternoon, continuing through sunset, and concluding in darkness always throws an exciting twist on any show. It seems that when the sun goes down, the show heats up, and an even better time begins to brew. Darkness also makes spark-showering, frame-dragging trucks more prominent. After Dark took advantage of the night's black canvas by featuring a rail drag contest to let spark-throwing rides show off. For West Coast shows, dragging contests seem to be a special treat, and enthusiasts certainly took advantage of this opportunity during After Dark.

Cruisin' for a Cure happens to be one of those annual events that always stands out because of its unique cause and the overwhelming support it receives. You can't deny that there is just a phenomenal, consistent turnout. With last year's attendance of over 3,300 entrants, and this year's pre-registration numbering at least 2,800, there is an overall excitement just due to the quantity of custom rides. In addition to quantity, the quality of the show entries is flat-out jaw-dropping, as custom paint, bodywork, rims, and interiors adorn many (if not most) of the vehicles.

Spectators flock to these rolling displays of pride, time, and creativity by the hundreds, sporting hats, sun block, strollers, and cameras. This is certainly a family event. A show that can make huge fairgrounds feel crowded, both in terms of vehicles and spectators, is something special. Even finding a clearing to take pictures becomes a test of patience!

Generation gaps disappear through a passion for and fascination of custom vehicles at Cruisin' for a Cure. Hot Rods, lowriders, lifted trucks, exotics, and everything in between overwhelm the fairgrounds, solidifying the fact that that there is something for everyone at this show! The cruise lane, another standout, remains bumper to bumper all day long with an eclectic array of vehicles that at times have very little in common.

The impact of Cruisin' for a Cure does not end when the day is over and the vehicles make their way home. In fact, it just begins, because his show is dedicated to helping find a cure for prostate cancer. All money goes to research, and this year over 60k has been made so far! This show deserved a round of applause.

Perfect weather (and fire-free hillsides) greeted those who made it out to the California Truck Jam in Irvine, California. From the monster truck Shocker dusting the field of custom rides, to trucks covering spectators in smoke during the burnout contest, to trucks hopping successfully without too much carnage, this year's event went smoothly from sunrise to sunset.
