Some 2,000+ pre-'49 custom rods and trucks invaded the Kern County Fairgrounds in Bakersfield, California, for the 30th NSRA Western Nationals. Competitors and spectators were treated to chamber of commerce weather a couple of weeks before temperatures will reach triple digits in the San Joaquin Valley.
The spacious fairgrounds feature three massive exhibition halls that housed supporting aftermarket manufacturers displaying their latest hot-rod wares. A large variety of eats and drinks could be had at any of the many concession stands scattered throughout the grounds, which had plentiful grass and shade. The fairground cruise route was well traveled from sunup to sundown. A rainbow of colorful rods and trucks covered every square foot of the display areas. Continuous '50s and '60s tunes played all weekend long, taking you right back to the era when cruisin' was cool. NSRA is all about food, folks, and fun. After the awards were handed out on Sunday afternoon everybody picked up, loaded up, and rolled out of town, with a good time had by all.
