Here is our stock 2000 Chevy Tahoe awaiting its makeover. It wasn't much of a stunner in s
Lifted trucks are typically associated with the 1980s, when more than a few sky-high Toyotas trampled the asphalt in search of other rides sitting tall on big rubber. With current road conditions in California and other states being so poor, several enthusiasts are trading in the low-down slammed look for the up-in-the-air, go-anywhere option.

But once the lift, the wheels and tires, and the fender flares were in place, it became a
Trucks on the up-and-up path allow their owners the convenience of optimal ground clearance, which is critical for towing, daily driving, and light off-road situations. Lifted trucks and sport utility vehicles seem to outnumber the quantity of slammed haulers rolling the streets daily on 20-inch wheels.
The practicality of not having to creep over road obstacles, speed bumps, and rough terrain is causing customizing addicts to send their two-wheel-drive rides toward the sky instead of plummeting them toward the soil. Identical to the competitive spirit in the slammed scene, lifted truck and SUV owners are just as competitive when it comes to the height of their truck and the size of the wheels and tires.
On a more practical note, several companies offer lift kits that are designed to lift the vehicle a specified number of inches while allowing for a specific wheel-and-tire combination. For the daily driven truck or SUV, this is the most viable option because these kits are designed to maintain factory suspension geometry for a decent ride. The lift sizes ranging from 4 to 6 inches provide a cool modified look without going over the practicality barrier. Once you go more than 6 inches, the vehicle becomes difficult to enter and exit, the ride is affected, and handling becomes a distant memory.
Recently, we had the opportunity to follow along while Trader's Truck Accessories in Whittier, California, sent a 2000 Chevy Tahoe into the clouds with a 4-inch Fabtech Suspension lift, custom rims and tires, and some aggressive off-road-style fender flares. Follow along while we take a mild-mannered Bow Tie and turn it into an urban-assault SUV packed with style and function.
