Open up any issue of Truckin', check out the features, and you'd swear that the proverbial 4/6-inch drop has been deemed obsolete. Nearly every custom truck we bring you these days has been equipped with an adjustable suspension and is capable of laying frame at the flip of a toggle switch. While it is our duty to bring you the best of the best from the truck world, a lot of you still need your trucks to perform like trucks. You may want to go low, but you also need to load up the bed once in a while.
There is a reason why the 4/6-inch drop always has been and still remains so popular. For all intents and purposes, it is the farthest you can lower your ride without incurring any or all of the side effects associated with lowering. A second argument in favor of the 4/6-inch drop has to do with large diameter wheels. As you can see in the lead photo, if you're running 18s or dubs, then a 4/6-inch drop completely eliminates the gap between the fender and the tire. Any lower and driveability will be impaired unless you cross over into the world of airbags.
To complete our goal of dropping this 2000 Chevy 1/2-ton over the top of 18- and-20-inch KMC Venoms wrapped in Yokohama rubber, we called on two of the leaders in this area: Belltech and Traders. Belltech has probably sold more drop spindles, drop coils, and flip kits in the last 10 years than many of its competitors combined. If Guinness had a world record for installing lowering kits on sport trucks, Traders would have the title, hands down. Follow along as the crew hooks up our bone-stock daily driver with a whole new image.
