2000 Dodge Dakota Brake Upgrade - Spinnin' And Stoppin'

A new Power Slot cryogenic slotted and vented rotor was mounted onto the front hub assembly.

The Power Slot cryogenic slotted and vented rotor has greater tensile strength, abrasive wear, dissipation of heat, and eliminates warping. The directional slotted rotor surface helped to eliminate trapped gases, due to heat buildup, and cleans brake pads during rotor rotation. The cadmium plating creates a high-tech appearance and protects against rust and corrosion.

Posi Quiet scorched brake pads deliver increased braking performance, eliminate noise, glazing, chatter, and rotor hot spots.

Jim mounted the A1 Cardone caliper with Posi Quiet pads to the factory mounting bracket. The air gap was checked between the rotor and pads.

The A1 Cardone single-piston calipers were sent to Specialized Coatings in Huntington Beach, California, where they received both color and protection after being powdered with DuPont Red Baron coating.

Before bleeding the front disc brakes, Jim made sure there was plenty of brake fluid in the master cylinder's reservoir. It was checked periodically during the bleeding process.

A 5/16-inch box end wrench was used to open and close the caliper bleeder valve. As the brake-pedal was pumped three of four times, it built up pressure in the brake line and caliper. The valve was opened, which released fluid and any trapped air into the submerged plastic tube inside the quarter-filled catch bottle. This was repeated until the brake pedal was firm and all of the air bubbles were eliminated from inside of the brake line and caliper.

The wheels and tires came premounted and balanced from The Tire Rack. Mario checked the air pressure after receiving them from South Bend, Indiana.

The Dakota got a new set of treads, Avon Tech ST 275/45R20.
