Ford F150 Custom Painted Interior - The Perks of Paint
Once a rough texture had been created, Bulldog adhesive promoter was sprayed on the inside and outside of the pillars.
Masking tape was applied to the outside, providing a pocket for the hole. On the inside, Javier used a flexible plastic grid, which gave the hole a base structure.
As you can see, the grid will serve as the template for the filler. The grid's hole would allow the filler to seep through, and when the filler dried, it filled the entire area.
The Lord Fusor 102 is a two-part plastic panel cosmetic adhesive. Once it's mixed together, it dries quickly and creates a hard and strong surface.
After mixing it, the 102 was applied using a plastic spreader in and around both holes. Two layers on the inside were applied.
A light layer was applied to the outside of the A-pillars, then after it dried, Javier used 320-grit sandpaper to smooth down the top coat.
Using an air palm disc sander, the plastic was sanded to help the adhesive and plastic blend.
Prep is what separates a DIY job and a full custom from a professional paint shop. Javier didn't hesitate when it came time to use a flexible sanding block, ensuring the two pieces were level and smooth.
Using a pick, Javier placed small holes into the hardened and sanded 102. This helped the primer to fill in during any type of heat or paint shrinkage.
