It's been a long time since we've showed you an install on a truck cap (some of you may call it a camper shell), but when it comes to daily drivers and weekend toys, there's no quicker way to change the utility of your truck than bolting on some extra capability. There's not much to it, but check out how you can keep your cargo dry and secure, and completely change the overall look of your truck in a matter of minutes.

A one-hour visit to South County Auto Body in Lake Forest, California, had Javier, Jesse, Pedro, and Manny put their muscle into mounting the SnugTop Cab-Hi cap to add base camp capability to this Tundra.

The truck we're starting with is the '09 Tundra we featured in last issue's Fantastic Four. As you can see, the longbed really threw off the proportions of the truck; it needed something, and it needed it quick.

  • Snugtop Cab Hi Truck Cap Buff
Although you can get them factory paint-matched, our SnugTop was in bare gelcoat, which was already white, just not quite the same white as the truck. We knew we'd need to paint it, and the guys at South County had it matching in no time. Pedro finished off the paint with a thorough buff.

  • Snugtop Cab Hi Truck Cap Shell
Jesse, Manny, Javier, and Pedro lifted the shell onto the lifted Tundra's bed. This was the hardest part of the whole install since a longbed cap is pretty unwieldy. Buy a six-pack and invite some friends.

  • Snugtop Cab Hi Truck Cap Carpet Interior
The interior of the Cab-Hi is carpeted and features a dome light to help when loading and unloading. The dome light was wired into a constant 12-volt source, and the LED third brake light was wired into the factory center high-mounted stop light (CHMSL). Check out all the space, some of us on the Truckin' staff have had apartments smaller than this. Unfortunately, some of us still do.

  • Snugtop Cab Hi Truck Cap Special Bolts
Here's what makes the install go so quickly: Snug-Top has reinforced pockets along the bottom edge of the Cab-Hi that use special bolts to clamp the cap to the bedrail without drilling holes. The guys just snugged the bolts down tight, tightened a jamb nut, and we were good to go.
